COVID cases continue to rise in NWT

The number of active COVID in the Northwest Territories rose by 99 in one day, according to the latest numbers provided Friday evening.

On Friday there were 334 active cases in the territory, 219 of them are in Yellowknife, Dettah and Ndilǫ.

There is also 100 active cases in Behchokǫ̀, five cases in Hay River, three in Fort Smith, two in Délı̨nę and one in Fort Good Hope.

A press release by the chief public health officer says COVID was detected in Fort Simpson’s wastewater.

Anyone in Fort Simpsons with symptoms is asked to get tested as well as anyone who traveled to an area of the territory with active cases.

There have been 33 hospitalizations as a result of the current outbreak and 13 people have been admitted to the intensive care unit.

Six residents have passed away as a result of COVID-19.
