Sonny Zoe appointed as acting Tłı̨chǫ Grand Chief until election

The Tłı̨chǫ Assembly has appointed Sonny Zoe to serve as acting Grand Chief of the Tłı̨chǫ Nation.

Zoe will serve in this position until a Grand Chief is officially elected on Nov. 18, a press release reads.

The term of Grand Chief officially ended on Sept. 30 — this was the original date of the election which was delayed as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. There are currently 100 active cases of COVID-19 in Behchokǫ̀.

The Tłı̨chǫ Assembly wrote the Tłı̨chǫ Nation requires an acting Grand Chief to fulfill the leadership role until the election is concluded.

Three candidates are running for Tłı̨chǫ Grand Chief; incumbent George Mackenzie, former Grand Chief Eddie Erasmus and former longtime Monfwi MLA Jackson Lafferty.
