Following the recent COVID-19 outbreak in the Sahtu region, the Sahtu Secretariat Incorporated (SSI) annual general assembly in Coville Lake has been postponed.

“Due to the recent developments with the COVID-19 pandemic in the Sahtu region and NWT, please continue to follow GNWT public health restriction rules and please keep safe,” reads a public notice.

The original meeting was scheduled to take place from Sept. 7-9.

Charles McNeely is the chairperson for SSI.

He says residents can expect the new meeting date to be announced in early September.

CKLB asked how his community of Fort Good Hope was doing amidst the outbreak.

“I go out and ride around the community and check on people and everybody is doing good,” he says. “Everybody’s happy.”

“The (fear) is not as bad because everybody’s taking care of themselves,” he adds.

He even mentioned some members of the community are keeping busy by cutting firewood to prepare the Elders for winter.
