Tłı̨chǫ citizens can participate in the annual gathering this year on their computers, TV’s, radios or phones.
The Tłı̨chǫ Annual Gathering is a chance for the government to discuss various subjects and issues with its citizens, while providing an opportunity for the community to spend time quality time together.
“In normal times, a way to build strength is for the citizens of our communities to come together in unity during the Annual Gathering,” says Grand Chief George Mackenzie in the annual report. “However, the pandemic has had an impact upon what we can do safely as a Government.”
The gathering, initially scheduled to be held in Wekweètì, from July 7 to 9, is going online, on TV and on the airwaves as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an email the Tłı̨chǫ Government says details on how to connect to radio, TV, internet or by toll-free number will be posted at a later date.
The Tłı̨chǫ Government emailed its annual general report to CKLB and other media outlets in preparation for the gathering. The reports will be distributed to each household in the Tłı̨chǫ region next week.
The report highlighted initiatives the Tłı̨chǫ Government launched to support citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic.
These include a hamper program consisting of food and cleaning supplies, a program supporting families on the land and a plan to distribute cloth masks to every Tłı̨chǫ citizen.
The report also mentions major topics such as building the all-season road to Whatì and the provision of summer programs for youth.
Other subjects discussed includes the sustainability of Tłı̨chǫ lands, water and wildlife, as well as the revitalization of the language and culture and how to build healthy communities with healing and wellness.
The event is now scheduled for August 11 and 12.
Tłı̨chǫ citizens can ask questions or provide comments on August 12 at each presence office in Behchokǫ̀, Whatì, Gamètì and Wekweètì, or by submitting them in an email to annualgathering@tlicho.com until August 4.
