A month later, RCMP still looking for driver in deadly car crash near Behchokǫ̀

A month after a deadly car crash outside of Behchokǫ̀, local RCMP still haven’t found the man suspected to be the driver.

Police believe Steven Theriault, 44, was driving a vehicle that was found upside down, about 150 feet off Highway 3.

A young woman from Behchokǫ̀ in her early twenties died in the crash, other passengers were taken to hospital.

At the time, police said Theriault and another man left the scene before officers arrived.

Police say drugs and alcohol may be a factor.

Behchokǫ̀ RCMP say Theriault could be “either in the Northwest Territories, or in Alberta, in the Greater Edmonton area or northern Alberta.”

CKLB has asked police for more details on how they believe Theriault left the scene of the crash in April. We will update with additional information as it becomes available.
