The first Community Housing Plan in Whatì has been concluded.
“The Whatì Community Housing Plan is an important step in this process to strengthen the trust and relationships between communities and the Territorial government,” Alfonz Nitsiza, Chief of the Whatì Community Government said.
The Community Housing Plan represents an extensive, integrated, partnership approach to identify the factors that contribute to the long-standing and complex issues affecting housing and tenants in the NWT.
“Improving housing in the NWT requires additional partnerships, leadership collaboration and to leverage precious resources,” Chinna said.
On December 17, The Honourable Paulie Chinna, Minister Responsible for the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation (NWTHC) and Homelessness met with Chief Nitsiza, the Tłı̨chǫ Government and the NWT Housing Corporation to conclude the plan.
The Housing Plan will guide and support community housing objectives and are reflective of community realities and perspectives.
“I am pleased to see that the GNWT is recognizing the importance of community knowledge and decision making in meeting our housing needs,” Chief Nitsiza said.
