An investigation is underway after a man died following a fire Tuesday in Behchoko.

The victim reportedly passed away yesterday after being medevaced from Yellowknife to Edmonton.

His name has not been officially released.

Chucker Dewar, the fire marshal for the Northwest Territories updated, the investigation for CKLB Friday morning.

He says the fire started in a teepee but officials are not sure yet just how it started.

Dewar adds that foul play is not suspected in the man’s death.

He says his office is working with an Alberta medical examiner because the man died in that province.

Dewar reminds residents to be very careful with fires in tents or teepees.

It’s believed an autopsy is being done in Edmonton to determine the cause of death.

The man has been identified for CKLB by people who knew him, but we are not using his name at this time out of respect for the family.
