The Hilltop Apartments are coming down.

Housing Northwest Territories is requesting tenders for the abatement and demolition of the 1960s-era townhouse complex located at 5009 47th Street.

This is another step toward creating new housing in Yellowknife, with the demolition to being this Spring, stated the agency.

The future development opportunity hasn’t been detailed, but CBC North reports it will require federal government funding support.

There have been several fires in the aging complex over time, and it was boarded up for good last year.

Tenants in the 24-unit complex, which overlooks Weledeh Catholic School’s playground, “received personalized support to ensure a smooth transition with the Yellowknife Housing Authority and North Slave District Office of Housing NWT,” stated the agency.
