Harley Pierrot’s killer in Fort Good Hope gets seven years for manslaughter

Flloyd Kakfwi had earlier pleaded guilty for the stabbing, which took place during a drinking party in 2024

Floyd Kakfwi has been sentenced to seven years’ behind bars for stabbing Harley Pierrot in an alcohol-fuelled conflict in Fort Good Hope in 2024.

Kakfwi, who is now 54, had earlier pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced in that Sahtu community earlier this week.

Kakfwi will serve seven years, less about 16 months credit for -pre-trial custody.

According to an agreed statement of facts, Kakfwi had been drinking at his home with Pierrot and a group of people, in the early morning one year ago.

An argument led to Pierrot being told to leave the residence, but he refused.

Kakfwi retrieved a knife from his kitchen and stabbed Pierrot.

Pierrot was taken to hospital with grievous injuries on June 15 and died almost two weeks later.

The incident happened as massive wildfires were approaching Fort Good Hope, which was evacuated a short time afterwards.
