A former teacher in the Northwest Territories has been found guilty of multiple sexual offences following a recent trial.
Neil Barry was found guilty earlier this month after a three-week trial in Yellowknife. The charges were tied to past incidents investigated by the RCMP in 2021. Sentencing will be determined by the courts at a later date.
Barry had also worked as a teacher in Prince Edward Island, Nunavut, and Alberta. Police say there may be additional victims in those regions who have not yet come forward.
The RCMP is encouraging anyone who may have experienced sexual abuse to contact their local police when they feel ready. Officers are trained in trauma-informed approaches and are committed to supporting survivors.
