Sirens blared by the CKLB station down to the Yellowknife Lift Station next to the recycle bins on School Draw Avenue.

When reporters arrived, the station was cordoned off with yellow police tape; three ambulances, two firetrucks and two municipal enforcement vehicles were scattered at the scene.

Upon arriving, we heard someone may have fallen down a shaft in the lift station. That was the case—but it was planned and staged. Nearly twenty minutes after arriving, an official at the scene informed media that it was a training exercise.

The official said these types of exercises help keep responders up to date and response times down.

The exercise included Yellowknife fire, ambulance and municipal enforcement. (Francis Tessier-Burns/CKLB).
