Saskatchewan teens sentenced for firearms and drug offences

They faced multiple charges following their August arrest in Fort Providence


Two Saskatchewan youths have been sentenced after being charged with firearms and drug offences, according to a Monday news release.

On August 30th, Fort Providence RCMP responded to a report of two persons loitering around a local business in the community. Officers located the suspects and learned both had active warrants for their arrests.

During the arrest, police found approximately 108 grams of suspected crack-cocaine, $1220 in cash, firearm and ammunition and drug paraphernalia.

The two suspects, aged 16 and 17, were charged with several offences, including possession of a controlled substance for trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and careless use of a firearm.

The 17-year-old pled guilty on October 30, and was sentenced to 15 months of custody and issued a firearms prohibition.

On December 5, the 16-year-old pled guilty and was sentence to 6 months of deferred custody along with a firearms prohibition.

Both youths have been ordered to submit a DNA sample to the National DNA Databank.
