The Aboriginal Sports Circle NWT marked its 25-year anniversary in the spring and will march into the future called Indigenous Sports Circle Northwest Territories.

Angela Grandjambe is chair of the organization.

“This change reflects our deep respect for the cultural identities and achievements of Indigenous athletes and communities in the Northwest Territories,” she stated in a release. “The Indigenous Sports Circle NWT is dedicated to its vision of fostering healthy, active, and culturally connected Indigenous communities.”

The name change aligns with contemporary language and international standards, recognizing the preferred terminology in global contexts, stated the organization.

The Sports Circle advocates for equitable access to sport, celebrates athletic achievements, and strengthens partnerships to enhance the quality of life for Indigenous peoples across the territory.
