Teenager runs with a gun from Mounties, now faces serious charges

Stolen loaded handgun found after short chase in Yellkowknife last week, say RCMP


A teenager who ran from police in Yellowknife while packing a stolen loaded handgun now faces a host of weapons charges.

On Wednesday, RCMP officers attended a residence in Yellowknife in an attempt to arrest a suspect in an unrelated investigation, stated a release.

The suspect immediately fled from police. After a brief foot chase, officers were able to safely arrest the suspect.

Eighteen-year-old Alen Vogel of Yellowknife is facing a number of charges, including: Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; possession of a weapon obtained by crime; carrying a concealed weapon; possession of a restricted firearm; and improper storage of a firearm.

Vogel had an initial appearance before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody.

Any accused person is considered innocent until charges against them can be tested in court.
