Substantial amount of cash and stolen guns seized from a trailer in Hay River

Hay River RCMP seized cash and stolen firearms from a suspicious travel trailer on July 19.

Police say in a Wednesday news release that the occupants of the trailer unlawfully parked it on town property and were trying to keep others away from the area.

Officers attended the scene along with a Hay River bylaw officer and conducted a search, seizing $17,000 in cash, four firearms and other weapons.

After the investigation, 22-year-old Rukundo Fota of Alberta and 36-year-old Brian Swallow of Hay River have been charged with seven counts of offences, including mischief under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and unsafe storage of firearms.

Fota was released on a release order and is expected to appear in court on August 26. Swallow is expected to appear in court on September 26.
