Kele Antoine has been re-elected as chief of Łııdlı̨ı̨ Kųę First Nation.
Antoine won by nine votes over Mavis Cli-Michaud, who had 110 votes in Thursday’s election at Fort Simpson.
The re-elected chief on Facebook expressed appreciation:
“It was a very close contest, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mavis Cli-Michaud for her strong campaign and dedication. Mavis had many supporters who passionately believed in her vision, and I respect and appreciate the contributions she has made,” Antoine stated.
“As we move forward, it is crucial for us to come together as a community. My goal is to work towards unity and to bring us all together in a good way, respecting our diverse voices and building a stronger, more inclusive future for Łııdlı̨ı̨ Kųę First Nation.
“Thank you all for your trust and support. Let’s move forward together with strength and unity.”
Nine councillors were also elected on Thursday: Joanne Kenny, 184 votes; Bianca Gargan, 183 votes; Nathan McPherson, 180 votes; Brian Martineau; 161 votes; Brandon Bugghins, 153 votes; James Tsetso, 146 votes; Dennis Deneyoua, 146 votes; James Antoine, 132 votes; and Eric Menicoche, 130 votes.
