Residents planning to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day with an open campfire will need to rethink their plans.
A fire ban has been issued for Yellowknife, effective tomorrow at noon.
This fire ban prohibits open air burning within city limits, including the use of approved fire pits. Camp stoves, enclosed BBQs and propane-fueled burners are allowed. CRA-approved propane appliances are not affected.
“The fire ban is a proactive measure to reduce the risk of fires starting from campfires, bonfires and other open-sourced flames within city limits,” says Yellowknife Fire Chief Nelson Johnson.
The fire ban will remain in effect until further notice.
