Once again, NWT healthcare services are going to be affected by a staffing shortage.
The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority says some service reductions will last all summer.
For now, NTHSSA says physician coverage in Hay River between July and September “is not guaranteed.” As a result, Hay River residents may have to be moved for care.
In Yellowknife, the Laboratory and Diagnostic Imagine services at the primary care clinic will be closed from June 27 to Sept. 5. The services includes things like X-rays and ultrasounds.
“Staffing this service has been an ongoing issue and impacts have been announced as they presented,” reads an NTHSSA notice. “Constant intermittent closures have added frustration for staff, providers, and patients.”
It adds that during the closure, the health authority will assess its staff recruitment options.
The notice says other service reductions are likely as “staffing levels across the entire health and social services system are strained.”
NTHSSA is asking residents to cancel appointments they cannot attend to help alleviate the strain on healthcare resources.
