The two missing boaters from Łutselkʼe reported Oct. 4 have been safely located on an island near Gros Cap.
Alfred Catholique and Hugo Devost-Thomas were found on the same day the night of Oct. 4, “cold and hungry”, say police.
The pair began travelling to Yellowknife before being stranded due to poor weather and water conditions on Great Slave Lake on Oct. 1.
They were then found uninjured and brought to Yellowknife to be with friends and family.
The search and rescue mission was successful with the help of Yellowknife CASARA, Joint Rescue Coordination Center (Trenton), Acasta Heliflight and the Yellowknife Marine Rescue Unit of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Police encourage residents to bring emergency communication devices and to exercise caution when travelling.
