Yellowknife RCMP name new detachment commander

Inspector Dyson Smith is the new detachment commander for the Yellowknife RCMP.

A 20-year police veteran, Smith has spent time working for the RCMP in Alberta, Nunavut, Nova Scotia, the national headquarters in Ottawa and the Northwest Territories.

Smith says in a press release he hopes to continue the work done by his predecessor, Alex Laporte.

“I want our police force to be close to the people,” Smith says. “I sincerely believe that, as a public service, we are accountable and we must be open to dialogue with our partners and the community.”
