Hay River youth arrested after threatening school sports event
The youth made a post online that seemed to hint at an attack on the school. Five guns were found at their home.
A Hay River youth has been arrested after they made a threatening post on social media.
The Hay River RCMP were made aware of the post shortly after it was made on February 19th. The image depicted the youth holding a firearm, with text that seemed to suggest a threat made to an upcoming school event.
The 15-year-old Hay River resident was quickly identified as a student at Diamond Jenness Secondary School. A search warrant was secured for the youth’s home, and when police arrived to investigate, they found five firearms and an airgun.
The youth was arrested and held in custody for a time. They were then released to appear in court to answer for charges of Uttering Threats and several firearms charges.
The investigation into this incident continues.
