Yellowknife man arrested after robbing Dollarama with knife

The 65-year-old suspect pointed the knife at several people, but was unable to hurt anyone before he was arrested

A Yellowknife man is in custody after attempting a robbery at the local Dollarama.

The incident occurred just before 9:30am on Monday, February 16th. Police were informed that a customer at Dollarama appeared to be intoxicated. The suspect drew a knife, and fled the scene on foot with a handful of stolen goods.

Local RCMP began searching for the suspect with the help of Police Dog services. The suspect was quickly found in front of the Stanton Territorial Hospital.

As the police approached the suspect, he once again pulled out his knife and was pointing it at officers. The suspect was subdued with the use of a taser, and taken into custody.

65-year-old Joseph Dietrich has been charged with Robbery with a Weapon, and remains in custody while he waits for a bail hearing.

Nobody was injured in this incident.
