Arctic Winter Games trials continue across Yellowknife, Dettah
The competition to see who makes Team NT for the massive March games in Whitehorse wraps up tomorrow
The Team NT Trials for the 2026 Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse this March continue through Saturday at a number of locations in Yellowknife and Dettah.
More than 600 athletes, along with coaches, chaperones, volunteers and parents are here from communities across the NWT competing in sport such as: table tennis; curling; female and male hockey; wrestling; basketball; Dene Games and Arctic Games.
In Dettah’s Chief Drygeese Centre on Saturday, Junior Finger Pull starts at 9 am, with open categories at 1 pm,
Arctic Sports are at Range Lake North School and Saturday feature open male Airplane at 9 am, with open male Headpull at 1 pm and open male Knuckle Hop at 4 pm.
Hockey is on all day at the Muliplex’s two rinks, volleyball is at DND Gym at the Fieldhouse, and badminton is at Sir John Franklin High School.

A total of 350 athletes will be chosen for the Winter Games.

Cross-country skiing/biathlon — Yellowknife Ski Club
Curling — Yellowknife Curling Club
Dene games — Chief Drygeese Centre, Dettah
Futsal — St. Pat’s High School gym, Fieldhouse
Gymnastics — Yellowknife Gymnastics Club
Hockey — Multiplex
Table tennis — William McDonald School gymnasium
Volleyball — DND Gymnasium, Multiplex
