PlanIt North launching new scholarship at 10th anniversary event
Indigenous students will be prioritized for the scholarship, which will be worth $2,000
To help celebrate their tenth anniversary, the PlanIt North group, a Yellowknife-based community planning firm, will be holding a public event to share more information about their new scholarship.
Formed in 2015, PlanIt North works to give assistance to other organizations on creating action plans to reach their goals. Their focus is on local governance and resource management. The group has connections and operations in several different communities, including the North Slave, Sahtu, and Dehcho.
Their new scholarship would provide $2,000 to NWT students who are looking to follow a career in community and regional planning. Those who are eligible to receive the scholarship may be able to receive it again for up to four years for an undergraduate degree, or two years under graduate studies.
In the statement announcing this scholarship, Christine Wenman, the CEO and Founder of PlanIt North, said that the NWT has a strong need for community planners.
“Locally grown Planners deeply understand their communities and are uniquely equipped to engage community members in achieving the future they envision.”
She added that this scholarship will have a priority focus on Northern Indigenous students.
“We are a Northern business serving Northern communities, so we want to encourage Northern youth to enter the profession and raise awareness about it at the same time. A lot of people aren’t familiar with Planning as a profession, and they aren’t aware of the education pathways to get there.”
The anniversary event will be held at the Akaitcho Post building in Yellowknife from 12 to 2pm on Friday, December 5th. Snacks will be provided, and more information about the Northern Planner scholarship will be shared.
