Three people charged after 16 firearms seized in Fort Smith
RCMP say many of the seized guns were loaded and unsafely stored
Three people have been charged after RCMP seized 16 firearms in Fort Smith, according to a Tuesday news release.
Officers were called to a home on Whipoorwill Crescent after receiving a report that someone was believed to have a firearm on November 15. Police say the situation was safely resolved and the firearm involved in the initial report was seized.
A further search at the same location led to the discovery of 16 firearms, many of which were loaded and unsafely stored, police said.
As a result, 68-year-old Leonard Cardinal, 47-year-old Darrell Cardinal and 23-year-old Keigan Cardinal have been charged with careless storage of firearms.
Keigan faces additional charges, including possession of a firearm without a licence, careless handling of a firearm, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
Darrell is facing six further charges, including four firearm-related offences, uttering threats, and assault with a weapon.
Darrell appeared before a justice of the peace and was remanded into custody. Keigan and Leonard were released to appear in court at a later date.
