RCMP in Fort Smith are asking for the public’s help in locating a 14-year-old boy who was a passenger in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 5.

In a Monday news release, police said they were called to the scene near King Street around 6 pm Saturday, where they found a 43-year-old man near the vehicle with life-threatening injuries.

The man, believed to be the driver of a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro, appeared to have been ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to the local health centre and later transferred to Edmonton for treatment.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

During the investigation, witnesses reported seeing the 14-year-old boy leaving the scene on foot. Despite extensive searches involving RCMP police dog services and remotely piloted aircraft systems, officers have not yet located him.

The youth is described as slender, about 5’5”, with sandy blond hair and a possible mark near his left eye. He was last seen near Kaeser’s Stores around 5:30 p.m. on November 1, wearing a black hoodie and black track pants with a red stripe down the sides.

RCMP say they are concerned for his well-being, as he may require medical attention following the crash.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Fort Smith RCMP at 867-872-1111 or submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

UPDATE: On the evening of November 3rd, the 14-year-old youth attended the Fort Smith Health Centre with injuries related to the vehicle collision. The youth is in stable condition and his family has been notified.
