A new training program will soon be available for Tłı̨chǫ residents living in Yellowknife.

Announced on Friday, October 24th, the Mine Training Society will be working with the Tłı̨chǫ Government to bring new career development and employment services to Yellowknife’s Tłı̨chǫ population of around 900 people.

Over the next three years, the Mine Training Society will be spending approximately $1.2 million on services like hands-on training, career guidance, and skill building opportunities.

“We’ll also include the coordination of these training programs that are delivered in the Yellowknife area for Tłı̨chǫ citizens under the solid leadership of Annemieke Mulders, the CEO of MTS.” Said Giselle Marian, the Chair of the Mine Training Society’s Board of Directors.

“Here at the Mine Training Society, we’ll be providing wraparound services, follow-ups with our Tłı̨chǫ clients, and are committed to the success of every individual who we work with, and have a proven track record to that end. This new service unit could not have been made possible without the vision of our paying members and investing in our organization for the future of the workforce in the Northwest Territories.”

In a news release, Tłı̨chǫ Grand Chief Jackson Lafferty shared some words of his own.

“This partnership is an important step for us and it comes at a time when working together with partners to prepare Tłı̨chǫ citizens for the changing economy is critical. We have a history of working to train and develop Tłı̨chǫ citizens on individual projects, and we are building on that success together.”
