RCMP searching for armed suspects after early morning crime spree in Fort Smith

No arrests made; residents should expect increased police presence in the community, say Fort Smith officers

Assailants armed with machetes and a gun threatened and robbed people in an early Sunday morning crime spree in Fort Smith, say police.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on July 20th, Fort Smith RCMP received a report that three masked males armed with machetes had broken into a residence and threatened the occupant, who was able to escape, stated  release.

At approximately 6:33 a.m. another call was received indicating that a person had been assaulted and robbed at gunpoint and the suspect had fled with a quantity of cash and other goods.

As a result of the recently implemented framework of Project Guardian, resources were available and immediately deployed from Hay River to assist.

Residents should expect to see an increased police presence in the community in the coming days.

These investigations remain ongoing and no arrests have been made.
