Firefighters put out a fire near Pilot’s Monument in Yellowknife early Thursday morning

The Yellowknife Fire Division responded to reports of flames near Pilot’s Monument in Old Town, on Thursday morning, May 29.

Firefighters found a small wooden structure about 400 feet from the road that was mostly destroyed by fire. Nearby brush had also started to ignite, but crews quickly brought the fire under control. Firefighters remained on scene for just under an hour to make sure the fire was fully extinguished.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains unknown but is not considered suspicious. As a result, no formal investigation will take place.
