Three arrested following drug bust in Inuvik, say RCMP

Police seized 125 grams of crack cocaine and over $5,000 in cash


Inuvik RCMP say a criminal investigation into an apartment unit in the community led to the seizure of crack cocaine and cash.

Officers executed a search warrant on April 27, locating three people inside the residence. One person was arrested on scene, while the other two fled through a back window but were later arrested without incident.

Police say they seized 125 grams of crack cocaine and more than $5,000 in cash.

Abubakar Bakal, 31, of Edmonton, is facing eight charges related to drug trafficking and illegal possession of a firearm. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 1.

Candice Cockney, 40, of Inuvik, has been charged with drug trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and obstructing a peace officer.

Steven Nerysoo, 34, is charged with obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Both Cockney and Nerysoo have been released on conditions and are scheduled to appear in court in Inuvik on June 17.
