A Montreal man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 29-year-old Fort Good Hope resident.
RCMP allege the murder suspect was in Fort Good Hope as part of the illicit drug trade, stated a release today.
On February 24th, Fort Good Hope RCMP were called to a residence in the Sahtu community by family members who discovered a deceased 29-year-old man.
Officers determined that the man died as a result of a homicide.
“This homicide is a difficult reminder of the dangerous and exploitative nature of the illicit drug trade,” stated RCMP Sgt. Jason Hurley.
“Drug traffickers are coming to our communities to take advantage of people’s addictions and leave behind nothing but pain and suffering.
“This arrest should serve as warning to those who would come to the territory to commit violence that the RCMP has a long reach and we are committed to bringing violent criminals to justice.”
With the assistance of RCMP officers in Quebec, Sasha Bena, 18, of Montreal, was arrested on March 13th.
Bena has been charged with murder and was brought back to Yellowknife for court proceedings.
The RCMP thanks members of the community of Fort Good Hope for their cooperation and support, stated the release.
This investigation is still active and ongoing and investigators believe there may still be people who have information to provide to police.
Anyone who has information about this incident or recognizes Sasha Bena from Fort Good Hope or Norman Wells is asked to contact their local RCMP detachment.
