UPDATED: Overnight shooting in Fort Providence leaves one dead, two injured

RCMP believe it is an isolated incident and the general public is not at risk

Early Saturday morning, RCMP received a report of a shooting at a residence in the Dehcho region community, stated a release.

At approximately 12:45 a.m., officers found one victim deceased and two others injured. They were transported to the health centre for treatment.

While no arrests have been made, police believe it was an isolated incident that does not pose a risk to the general public.

A major police presence is currently in the community.

On Monday afternoon, RCMP stated in a release that both surviving victims remain in hospital.

One of the victims is in serious condition, while the other is stable.

This incident has been determined to be linked to the illicit drug trade in Fort Providence.

It is believed that the suspect in this case has fled the community and may have left the territory.
