A man has died after being detained by Yellowknife RCMP following a reported disturbance at a business on 50th Street on March 12.
According to a news release, police received the call around 4 p.m. Wednesday and arrived at the scene, where they detained a man who appeared to be intoxicated.
Shortly after being taken into custody, the man showed signs of medical distress.
“Officers and paramedics performed lifesaving efforts however where unsuccessful, and the man was declared deceased at the scene,” stated the release.
Since an in-custody death requires an external investigation, RCMP say Alberta’s K Division Major Crimes Unit is investigating the matter in partnership with Office of the Chief Coroner.
