Settling of scores in Fort Smith drug trade likely behind weekend crimes

Shots fired into a residence from a vehicle, followed by a fully engulfed vehicle fire minutes later, say RCMP

Fort Smith RCMP are seeking information from the public after weekend crimes suspected to be linked to the drug trade.

  • Shortly after 5 a.m. on February 15th, officers received a report that several shots had been fired from a vehicle into a residence on Field Street. The vehicle fled the scene immediately after the shots were fired. This is believed to be a targeted incident and not a random act.
  • Several minutes later, officers were dispatched to a vehicle on fire at the intersection of Klondike Avenue and Raven Street. The vehicle was fully engulfed upon police arrival and was extinguished by Fort Smith Fire Department. The vehicle was not occupied.

No injuries were reported as a result of either event. Police believe these two matters are related and linked to the local drug trade. No arrests have been made in these matters to date.

Residents who have security cameras in the area of Field Street, Klondike Avenue and Raven Street are asked to review any footage they may have from approximately 4:45 a.m. to 5:15 a.m. on February 15th. If either of these incidents or any suspicious activity was captured, please contact police.

Police are asking anyone who may have information on these occurrences to contact the Fort Smith RCMP at 867-872-1111 or p3tips.com.
