Hay River RCMP on lookout for suspect charged with firearms offences

Hay River RCMP seized a long gun and are looking for a suspect after a person had been threatened with a firearm.

In early February, police received information that a person had been assaulted at a residence on Woodland Drive, stated a release.

An investigation was launched, during the course of which officers learned that a person had also been threatened with firearm at the same residence.

A warrant to search this residence was obtained and executed by Hay River detachment with assistance from the “G” Division Emergency Response Team in the early morning hours of February 14th.

The search yielded one long gun, believed to be the weapon used in the offence, as well as two “pen guns” and other evidence.

Four people were detained during the search and subsequently released. The suspect was not present and has not been located.

In connection with the incident, a warrant for the arrest of 29-year-old Herbert Pekok has been issued.

He has been charged with: Pointing a firearm; unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon; possession of a weapon while knowing its possession is unauthorized; tampering with the serial number of a firearm; and unsafe storage of firearms.

Herbert Pekok is described as an Indigenous male, approximately 5’9” tall and 195 lbs.
