Man arrested after bear spray deployed inside Yellowknife Courthouse

The suspect has an active warrant at the time of his arrest

Yellowknife RCMP have arrested a man after bear spray was deployed inside the Yellowknife Courthouse on Tuesday, according to a news release.

Police responded to a report of bear spray being used on both the first and second floors. The suspect fled on foot, but with assistance from the RCMP Police Dog Service, officers tracked him to an apartment complex.

Following the investigation, 32-year-old Justin Barnet of Yellowknife has been charged with disguised with intent to commit an offence, mischief, resisting a peace officer, and possession of property obtained by crime.

RCMP say Barnet was already under a release order at the time of his arrest and had an active warrant for failing to appear in court on previous charges, including breaking and entering, mischief, and obstructing a peace officer.

Barnet is scheduled to appear in court on February 14.
