Drug precursors, cash, handgun seized during police raid

No injuries reported during major police response at apartment block in Yellowknife, say RCMP


A major RCMP operation in Yellowknife on Friday resulted in one arrest and the seizure of drug precursors, money, a handgun and ammunition.

As part of an investigation, police executed a search warrant at an apartment building in an unspecified neighbourhood in the city, bringing in the Emergency Response Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, K-9 team and a drone, stated a release

There were no reported injuries during the raid that resulted in the seizure of approximately $8,300 in cash, a pistol, ammunition, drug precursors (substances used in the production of drugs) and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

As a result of the investigation, sixty-one-year-old David Simpson of Yellowknife has been charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and weapons offences.

He appeared before a Justice of the Peace and is in custody.
