Yellowknife homicide case closed after suspect’s death

RCMP say no other individuals were involved in the 2024 shooting

The investigation into a Yellowknife homicide last year has been closed after the suspect died outside the territory, according to the Northwest Territories RCMP Major Crime Unit.

In a Thursday news release, police said 30-year-old Jonathan Gon, was pronounced dead on scene from multiple gunshot wounds at an apartment building in Yellowknife on May 17, 2024.

“As investigators were working to gather evidence to support an arrest and charges related to this homicide, the suspect died out of territory,” stated police.

The identity of the suspect was not made public, but investigators ruled out the involvement of any other individuals in Gon’s death.

RCMP said Gon’s family was kept informed throughout the investigation and notified of its conclusion.
