Inuvik RCMP seeks video footage for arson investigation

Police investigate suspicious fire and individuals seen with a gas can

Inuvik RCMP is requesting surveillance camera footage from residents to assist with an arson investigation.

The incident happened at a residence on Alder Drive in the early hours of January 19. While the fire was extinguished by the time officers arrived, evidence suggests it was deliberately set.

Fortunately, the home only suffered minor damage and no injuries were reported.

Prior to the incident, police received a report of three suspicious people carrying a gas can in the Wolverine Road area around 4 a.m. on January 10. The individuals had fled upon police’s arrival.

Residents with surveillance footage from Alder Drive and Wolverine Road on January 10 and January 19 from 3:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. are asked to share it with the police. Video showing any persons or vehicles could aid in identifying the arsonists.

Anyone with information or relevant footage is asked to contact Inuvik RCMP at 867-777-1111 or submit a tip via Crime Stoppers.
