Residents of Délı̨nę started 2025 facing with three new laws passed by the Délı ̨nę Got’ı ̨nę Government after pubic consultations last year.
The new rules cover water and sewer services, dogs, and fire services and are designed to update some Délınę Charter Community Bylaws deemed dated or confusing.
The DGG Fire Services Act states, in part that:
- Firefighters can only do things they are properly trained and equipped for.
- For example, the GNWT stated last year more training for members is needed to allow entry into burning buildings.
- Firefighters can enter non-burning buildings to protect people, property, or pets.
The new Dog Act clarifies rules, such as:
- Owners must provide the animals with enough food, clean water, and protection from heat and cold.
- Exercise opportunities don not mean allowing dogs to run wild.
- If a dog is in distress, the owner has to help the dog, or the animal could be seized.
- Officials can go onto property or into a car to help a dog without a warrant.
The new Water and Sewer Services Act states:
- Overdue bills may have late fees.
- If no payment for 90 days can have service stopped, except over winter.
- And since water currently free for houses, no one allowed to waste water or re-sell or give away water.
