The third time wasn’t a charm for an alleged Toronto drug dealer who was busted again in Hay River after RCMP found an illegal handgun, ammunition and a lot of fentanyl and crack cocaine.

A warrant was out for a 39-year-old man named Savy You after a court date was missed for his earlier charges this year. He was also supposed to stay in Toronto as part of his bail conditions, reads an RCMP release.

Last Thursday, RCMP started a firearm investigation after a person posted a picture of a firearm on social media and alluded to drug trafficking occurring at an apartment building on Woodland Drive in Hay River, stated the release.

Officers identified the apartment in question and obtained a search warrant, which was executed on Friday.

Five people were inside the apartment and arrested. Police discovered approximately 17 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 14 grams of suspected fentanyl, along with a handgun and ammunition. Over $3,000 in cash was also seized.

Four of the individuals were later released without being charged. However the Toronto man was Savy You of Toronto Ontario, was charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine;
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl;
  • Unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon;
  • Several other firearms charges, including handgun with tampered serial number
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; and
  • Three counts of breaking bail conditions; with count one of failure to attend court.

You appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody.

Media Relations Officer Constable Josh Seaward said the investigation remains open.

“The Hay River RCMP would like to thank those members of the public who supported and assisted police with this investigation,” he stated.
