Loaded gun, drugs and $30K seized during traffic stop on Highway 3

Two adults from Hay River and a 16-year-old from Toronto face charges

Behchokǫ̀ RCMP seized a loaded handgun, approximately 25 grams of suspected crack-cocaine and $30,000 in cash from a vehicle stopped on Highway 3 near Edzo around midnight yesterday.

Following the investigation, 35-year-old John Antoine and 26-year-old Jessica Sabourin, both from Hay River, as well as a 16-year-old youth from Toronto have been arrested. They are facing eight charges related to drug trafficking and illegal possession of a firearm.

Antoine and Sabourin are expected to be in court today, while the Toronto youth was released with a condition to leave the Northwest Territories.

Antoine has prior drug trafficking charges from a March 2024 incident when police discovered fentanyl and crack cocaine at a residence.
