Jeannie Scott will serve as the Chief Judge of the Territorial Court of the NWT for the next five years, appointed by Minister of Justice R.J. Simpson.

Scott has practiced law for 14 years and served as a judge in communities across the territory. Her previous roles include prosecutor with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada and lawyer for the GNWT.

As Chief Judge, Scott will oversee the sittings of the Territorial Court, including assigning judges for court hearings and supervising the Justice of the Peace program.

“She is a highly respected member of the legal community and has demonstrated a commitment to improving the administration of justice,” Simpson said in a news release.

Robert Gorin will serve as a judge of the Territorial Court, alongside Stephanie Whitecloud-Brass and Gary Magee.

Scott officially assumes office on October 2.
