Two wanted teenagers were arrested and illegal drugs and guns were seized after Fort Providence RCMP received a complaint about suspicious people last week.
On August 30th, which was last Friday, police received a report of two persons loitering around a local business in that South Slave region community, stated a release.
Officers located the male suspects and subsequently learned both had active warrants for their arrest.
After securing the suspects, officers located a firearm — a sawed-off shotgun — and ammunition, approximately 108 grams of suspected crack-cocaine, $1,220 in cash as well as other weapons and drug paraphernalia.
Cpl. Kevin Devoe, is commander of the Fort Providence RCMP detachment.
“I would like to once again sincerely thank our community for the support they give us in reporting suspicious activities,” he stated.
“This call started small but ultimately led to a significant drug seizure and the removal of an illegal firearm from our streets.”
Two Saskatchewan youths, aged 16 and 17, are facing the following charges:
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without licence.
- Two counts each of carrying a concealed weapon.
- Two counts each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and careless use of a firearm.
The 16-year old subject is facing an additional three counts of failure to comply with a probation order.
The 17-year old is facing one additional count of possession of a weapon contrary to a court order.
Both parties, neither of which can be named due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have appeared before a Justice of the Peace and remain in custody.
Both accused are assumed to be innocent until the evidence against them is tested in court.
