Two Inuvik women charged with murder, performing an indignity to human remains

Thirty-nine-year-old man found dead behind a building early Sunday morning; court later issues publication ban on details of scene

Two Inuvik women are charged with murder and performing an indignity to human remains after a man was found dead behind a building early Sunday morning.

After Inuvik RCMP received a report that a body had been in the Beaufort Delta community, they discovered the 39-year-old man.

As a result of the investigation, 24-year-old Annabelle Edwards and 20-year-old Felicia Elanik, both of Inuvik, have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and performing an indignity to human remains.

Both have appeared before a Justice of the Peace and have been remanded into custody, next appearing in Territorial Court in Yellowknife on September 3rd.

The court has placed a publication ban on the details of the homicide.

Both of the accused are presumed innocent until evidence against them is tested in court.

The deceased’s name has not been released.

Investigation into this matter remains ongoing, in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
