UPDATED: Hit and run follows fight in Hay River, sending victim to hospital

A man is in custody after a hit and run on Woodland Drive in Hay River on Monday, in which a victim was taken to hospital in serious condition.

The accused and victim were known to each other and had engaged in an altercation prior to the collision, RCMP stated in a release.

Officers located the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

A 38-year-old male has been charged with: Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm; assault with a weapon; and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

He was released to appear in Hay River Territorial Court on August 26th.

RCMP confirmed this was not an incident of intimate partner violence.

Police are asking anyone who may have video footage, photos or information about this incident to contact the Hay River RCMP at 874-1111 or Crime Stoppers at p3tips.com.

Also on Monday, in an unrelated incident, RCMP received multiple reports of a man wielding a knife in downtown Hay River.

Officers took three people believed to be involved in the incident into custody without issue.

Two knives were recovered and two of those arrested were released without charge.

But 41-year-old Randall Mandeville was charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and will appear on court later on.

He was held to appear before a Justice of the Peace and released to appear in Hay River Territorial Court on August 26th, 2024.
