Infant sent to Edmonton hospital with ‘life-altering injuries,’ woman arrested in Yellowknife

A 41-year-old woman has been charged with assaulting an infant and a toddler, say Yellowknife RCMP.

An infant was admitted to Stanton Territorial Hospital with life-altering injuries of a suspicious nature on April 24, 2024.

The infant was later transported to Edmonton for further treatment.

Yellowknife RCMP conducted an investigation, with assistance from the NWT Health and Social Services Authority and the Child and Adolescent Protection Centre in Edmonton.

Police learned during the investigation the woman had also assaulted a toddler, but the injuries were less severe.

The woman was charged with assault and aggravated assault on June 17.

She was held to appear before a Justice of Peace and was released. She is expected to appear in Yellowknife Territorial Court at a later date.
