A 31-year-old man is dead following an overnight shooting and RCMP is appealing to the public for information on the crime.
It’s the fourth homicide involving firearms in Yellowknife since November.
This morning at 12:46 a.m., police received a complaint indicating that someone had been shot inside an apartment building at 42 Con Road, a residential area in a shoulder of the city’s core.
“RCMP officers attended the scene and found a 31 year-old-man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” stated media relations Cpl. Matt Halstead.
“EMS attended the scene and despite life-saving attempts, the man died on scene.”
The Northwest Territories Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit are leading the investigation.
The RCMP isasking anyone who lives in the building that heard the incident or witnessed anything suspicious, to come forward and call police.
“Any information, even something as small as just having heard something or seen someone moving around the building may be helpful to investigators.
“Firearm related violence has no place in our community. We need witnesses to come forward and to help us provide answers to the victim’s family who is now grieving an unimaginable loss
Anyone who has information about this incident is asked to contact the Yellowknife RCMP at 669-1111 or Crime Stoppers at p3tips.com. In the event of an emergency call, 911.
