An Alberta man on bail for drug charges after a March bust in Inuvik has now been charged with trafficking in the same Beaufort Delta community.

RCMP credit a pro-active drug trafficking investigation for the seizure of 37 grams of cocaine and the arrest of two Edmonton men.

Thirty-year-old Abubakar Bakal and 29-year-old Mohamad Egeh, both from Edmonton, Alberta, have been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.

Bakal faces additional charges in relation to failing to comply with the conditions of his release on the March allegations.

Police said at the time they searched a hotel in Inuvik on March 7 and recovered cocaine, pills suspected to be opioids and $15,000 in cash.

Staff-Sgt. Jesse Aubin is commander of the Inuvik Detachment.

“The Inuvik detachment will continue to focus enforcement efforts on individuals who seek to profit from the distribution of these harmful substances in out community,” he stated in a release.

Both men remain in custody pending a court appearance on May 2nd.

RCMP are asking anyone with information related to drug trafficking in Inuvik to contact the detachment at 867-777-1111 or Crime Stoppers.
