2 NT RCMP officers charged with assault

Two NT RCMP officers from the Yellowknife detachment have been charged with assault.

Officers Francesca Bechard and Jason Archer each face one count of assault.

The incident in question dates back to Oct. 14 of last year.

The details of the incident remain unclear.

“While lodging a woman in cells, an incident occurred,” reads a police news release.

The incident was then reported by a senior officer, and then Inspector Dyson Smith, in charge of the Yellowknife detachment, requested a criminal investigation.

Alberta RCMP completed the investigation and sent the results to Public Prosecution Services, which recommended charges.

The officers are scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 14 and remain on duty in the interim.
